Si Racha, Administrative district in Chonburi Province, Thailand
Si Racha is an administrative district in Chonburi Province that spreads across coastal terrain between Chonburi and Pattaya along the Gulf of Thailand. It comprises eight subdistricts and includes the major Laem Chabang port area as a central feature.
The area grew from a small fishing settlement into an industrial center after Laem Chabang port was built in the late 20th century. This transformation made the district a key hub for regional trade and shipping activities.
The district is the birthplace of sriracha sauce, created by Burmese workers who settled here and developed this chili condiment that became famous worldwide. Today, this spicy sauce remains connected to the area's identity and its diverse working communities.
The area is easily reached via Highway 7 and regular bus services connecting Bangkok to local destinations. Visitors can access the coast at various points and explore both the port area and quieter community zones.
The Khao Kheow Open Zoo in the region houses Bengal tigers that live alongside pigs in an unusual arrangement. This rare animal pairing creates a surprising interaction that visitors find memorable and unexpected.
