Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Administrative district in central Bangkok, Thailand
Pom Prap Sattru Phai is an administrative district in central Bangkok composed of five subdivisions, each with its own neighborhoods and communities. The district is defined by several canals and centered around Wat Saket, home to the famous Golden Mount temple that stands prominently amid urban surroundings.
The district was created in 1915 during Bangkok's major reorganization and took its name from a defensive fort built under King Rama IV. This early administrative restructuring has shaped the district's organization to the present day.
The Golden Mount in Wat Saket serves as a major pilgrimage site where locals and visitors gather for prayer and meditation throughout the year. People climb the winding staircase to reach the temple, making it an active place of worship and reflection in the heart of the district.
The district is crossed by several canals and is served by boat routes along Khlong Maha Nak and Khlong Saen Saep as well as the MRT Blue Line. Having a map or navigation app helps when moving around the different subdivisions within the area.
The five subdivisions of the district carry names reflecting local temples and geographical features, showing how administration is rooted in the landscape itself. Each subdivision preserves its own historical and cultural character within the modern metropolis.
