Tham Pha Tha Phon Non-hunting Area

Tham Pha Tha Phon is a non-hunting area in Noen Maprang district built around limestone karst formations and natural water sources. Caves dot the landscape while thick forest blankets the terrain, creating layered habitats throughout the zone.

The Thai government created this protected zone in 1983 to safeguard animal populations and maintain ecological balance in the region. This action emerged from efforts to counter habitat loss occurring across Phitsanulok province at that time.

Local communities in the region view this place as important for understanding how nature and people can live together. They practice traditional ways of farming and help watch over the animals that call this area home.

The area is accessible via Highway 12 from Phitsanulok, then routes 11 and 129 heading into the district. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes for rocky terrain and consider hiring a local guide to navigate the caves and forest trails safely.

The Ban Mung River winds through this protected zone, forming small waterfalls and natural pools hidden among the limestone rock. Hikers often discover these water features tucked away in pockets throughout the landscape during their exploration.
