Rasht District, Administrative district in central Tajikistan.
Rasht District is an administrative area in central Tajikistan that stretches between Vahdat city and Lakhsh District, bordering Kyrgyzstan to the north. The region is characterized by mountainous terrain and contains several towns and smaller settlements.
The district played a role in the Basmachi movement during the 1920s, an armed rebellion against Soviet rule. Gharm, the district's main city, has been an important local center since that period.
The population, known as Gharmis, maintains distinct traditions following their forced relocation from western Tajikistan during the 1950s Soviet period.
The area is characterized by its mountainous landscape and requires visitors to prepare for rough terrain and variable weather conditions. Travel is best during warmer months when mountain passes remain accessible.
The district experiences significant seismic activity, as demonstrated by the 2007 earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale.
