Jendouba, Administrative region in northwestern Tunisia
Jendouba is an administrative region in northwestern Tunisia positioned between Algeria and the Mediterranean Sea. The governorate encompasses mountainous terrain, forested areas, and a coastline, with eight municipalities distributed throughout the landscape.
The region was established in 1956 and initially called Souk El Arba before being renamed in 1966. This change reflected administrative reorganization during Tunisia's early independence period.
The region maintains nine delegations with distinct market days, where local farmers trade cereals, vegetables, and fruits from their agricultural production.
The region is well connected by roads and offers several access points to mountain areas and coastal sections. Visitors should prepare for variable weather conditions, especially in higher elevations and during the rainy season.
The area around Aïn Draham receives notably high rainfall, making it significantly wetter than most of Tunisia. This moisture supports vegetation patterns that stand out in comparison to the surrounding landscape.
