Kelibia Fort, Military citadel in Cap Bon, Tunisia
The stone fortress stands on a 150-meter-high rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the northeastern coast of Tunisia.
The Ottoman Empire reconstructed this strategic fortification during the sixteenth century upon ancient foundations dating back to Carthaginian times.
The fort incorporates architectural elements from multiple periods, including Punic stonework, Zirid constructions, and Ottoman military engineering techniques.
The entrance fee includes access to the ramparts, which requires climbing steep paths to reach panoramic viewing points of the surrounding landscape.
During World War II, both Italian and German forces utilized the fort as a military position due to its strategic location on Cap Bon.
