Sbeitla

Sbeitla is an archaeological site near Kasserine with three temples dedicated to Minerva, Jupiter, and Juno arranged around a monumental forum. These buildings remain in excellent condition and show how Romans organized their public spaces.

This place developed as a Roman city and later became an important center for early Christians. In 647 CE, a major battle between Byzantine and Arab forces took place here, which marked the beginning of Islamic rule in North Africa.

The basilica here shows early Christian life through its large baptismal basin decorated with mosaics. You can see how faith and daily rituals shaped this place during Roman times.

The site is accessible by car and located inland from Kasserine in the central region. Visitors should come in the morning when light is best for seeing the ruins clearly and exploring the grounds comfortably.

The Temple of Jupiter has no direct entrance and could only be reached through bridges connecting it to neighboring temples. This unusual design shows how builders carefully controlled access to the most sacred spaces.
