Siverek

Siverek is an administrative center in Şanlıurfa Province situated on elevated terrain at about 800 meters above sea level. The town spreads across multiple neighborhoods with a compact old city core and expanding residential areas.

The settlement was originally known as Hisn ar-Ran and served as a Byzantine military fortress playing a strategic role from the 10th to 11th century. Later, the area became part of the Ottoman Empire and developed into an important administrative center.

The town is known for traditional crafts, especially woven textiles and handmade pottery created by local artisans using time-honored techniques. These craft traditions shape everyday life and help define the community's identity.

The climate is Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers, making spring and autumn the best times to visit. Visitors should prepare for hilly terrain and seek shade during the hot season.

Despite its administrative belonging to Şanlıurfa Province, the town sits geographically closer to the city of Diyarbakır and shares stronger practical connections with it. This unusual situation creates an interesting tension between administrative and geographical reality.
