Nissibi Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge over Euphrates River between Gerger and Siverek, Turkey
The Nissibi Bridge crosses the Atatürk Reservoir and connects Gerger and Siverek with a total length of 610 meters. The structure is supported by two concrete pylons rising on each side of the water, using a cable-stayed bridge system.
Construction of this bridge took place in 2015, following the submersion of the earlier crossing beneath the waters of the Atatürk Dam, which was completed in 1992. The project showed how critical connections in the region were restored to re-establish transport links between isolated areas.
The bridge carries a name rooted in ancient times and links two communities across the Euphrates in southeastern Anatolia. People use it daily to travel between remote areas and maintain their regional connections.
The bridge features four traffic lanes and allows direct travel between Adıyaman and Diyarbakır provinces without long detours. Visitors should know that crossing on foot or by bicycle depends on traffic conditions and road rules.
The pylons have an inverted Y-shape, which is a rare architectural solution for bridges in this region. This design creates a sleek appearance while distributing structural stress optimally across the span.
