Ulu Camii, Historical mosque in Şanlıurfa, Turkey
The Ulu Camii features twenty domes arranged in four rows, supported by solid columns, with an interior area filled with natural light.
Built between 1170 and 1175 during the Zengid period, the mosque stands on the foundations of a former church known as the Red Church.
The mosque interior displays traditional Islamic architecture elements, including a carefully crafted mihrab that indicates the direction of Mecca for prayers.
Located in the Eyyübiye district of Şanlıurfa, the mosque remains open for daily prayers and welcomes visitors outside of prayer times.
The structure underwent several renovations in 1684, 1779, 1780, and 1870, yet maintains no inscription to detail its complete historical timeline.
