Tek Tek Mountains National Park

Tek Tek Mountains National Park is a 19,335-hectare protected area in southeastern Turkey featuring steep mountain slopes, deep valleys, and a wide range of plant and animal species. The landscape reveals different rock types and contains several archaeological sites spanning multiple historical periods.

The area was an important settlement hub between the 2nd and 4th centuries, including the ancient city of Shuayip protected by defensive walls. These early communities show that the location attracted people for extended periods during antiquity.

The Soğmatar ruins show how people gathered in open spaces to worship and make offerings, leaving behind altars and sacred sites still visible today. The rocky formations served as natural backdrops for these rituals and continue to shape how the landscape feels.

The park offers hiking trails of varying difficulty and guided tours to explore the mountains and archaeological sites throughout the year. The best time to visit is spring or fall when temperatures are milder and walking is more comfortable.

A three-story cut stone structure sits on a hilltop, possibly a palace or monastery showing early Christian building methods in the region. This mysteriously-used construction dates to when different religions and cultures coexisted in the area.
