Balıklıgöl

Balıklıgöl is a body of water in the heart of Şanlıurfa fed by natural springs that form several interconnected pools filled with protected carp. The water remains clear, making it easy to see the hundreds of dark grey fish swimming throughout the site.

According to tradition, the springs emerged when King Nimrod attempted to execute Prophet Abraham, and miraculously flames transformed into water. This pivotal moment remains central to the site's religious meaning and the reverence visitors feel when present.

Muslims, Christians, and Jews visit this site for its connection to Prophet Abraham's story. Families come together here to pray and feel the spiritual importance that different faiths share at this location.

Visitors can buy fish food from local vendors at the site to feed the carp, an activity that appeals to people of all ages. The location is easily accessible and provides space for walking and relaxing in a well-maintained setting.

The dark grey carp living in the pools are protected by local custom, and it is strictly forbidden to catch or harm them. This rule has been passed down through generations and makes the fish themselves part of the site's living spiritual heritage.
