Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum, Mosaics museum in Şanlıurfa, Turkey

The Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum is a mosaic museum in Şanlıurfa, southeastern Turkey, built directly over the ancient site where the works were found. The building covers roughly 6,000 square meters (about 64,500 square feet) and spans some 82 meters (270 feet) across, with no interior columns.

The mosaics were uncovered during excavations in the Haleplibahçe area and date back to the late Roman period. The museum was later built over the site to keep the works in their original position.

One of the most visited sections is the Villa of Amazons, named after the hunting scenes found on its floors. The mosaics show women pursuing lions and tigers, echoing stories from ancient mythology that visitors can read in the images directly underfoot.

The museum has an elevator and is accessible for visitors with mobility difficulties. An audio guide service is available on site and helps make sense of the different mosaic panels throughout the space.

One mosaic shows a figure called Ktisis holding a Roman foot measure in her hand, a detail rarely seen in ancient floor art. She wears a pearl-studded crown and a necklace of colored stones, making her one of the more finely depicted figures from the site.
