Excavations at this settlement, which dates back to 10,000 BCE, began in 1964 and revealed evidence of human habitation spanning several millennia.

The archaeological findings demonstrate the transition from nomadic hunter-gatherer societies to settled agricultural communities in southeastern Anatolia.

The archaeological site is accessible by road from Diyarbakır, with guided tours available to explore the excavated structures and artifacts.

The site contains the earliest known evidence of copper metallurgy, where inhabitants created tools and ornaments through cold hammering techniques.
