Ahmet Arif Literature Museum Library, Literature museum and library in Sur district, Diyarbakır, Turkey
The Ahmet Arif Literature Museum occupies a restored mansion from the late 1800s in the historic center of Diyarbakır. The building contains six rooms arranged around a central courtyard and houses a public library with approximately 2500 volumes.
The Ministry of Culture converted this traditional residence into a museum in 2011 to honor poet Ahmet Arif, who was born in Diyarbakır in 1927. This transformation created a space to preserve the literary legacy of one of Turkish literature's major voices.
The rooms display works by poets from the southeast region and preserve the literary voice of this area. The exhibited items tell the story of a writing tradition that remains rooted in local identity.
The site is located in the historic district next to another literary museum and is easy to find when walking through the old streets. The rooms are modest in size, making it comfortable to visit without feeling rushed.
Among the most unusual items on display is a vest with forty buttons that once belonged to the poet. This distinctive piece of clothing offers a personal glimpse into the artist's eccentric style.
