Ziya Gökalp Museum, House museum in Sur district, Diyarbakır, Turkey
The Ziya Gökalp Museum occupies a basalt stone building with two floors arranged around a central courtyard in the historic district of Diyarbakır.
The Turkish Ministry of Culture transformed this 1808 residence, where nationalist intellectual Ziya Gökalp was born, into a museum in March 1956.
The museum displays artifacts and documents that reflect the life and work of Ziya Gökalp, who shaped Turkish nationalism in the early 20th century.
Located near the Grand Mosque, the museum provides educational programs about Turkish nationalism and the social changes during the Ottoman Empire's final period.
Unlike traditional houses in Diyarbakır that feature pools in their courtyards, this building contains its water feature within the indoor iwan section.
