Malatya Yeni Mosque

Malatya Yeni Mosque is a prayer house with traditional Ottoman design, featuring a central dome supported by four stone pillars as its main structural element. The entrance courtyard contains five sections with 24 ablution fountains and ample space where visitors prepare for prayer.

Construction began after the original Haci Yusuf Mosque burned down in 1889, with support from Sultan Abdulhamid II enabling the new building. The project was completed in 1913, replacing the destroyed predecessor.

This mosque serves as the central prayer facility for Malatya's Muslim community, where people gather daily and throughout the Islamic calendar for worship. The gathering space reflects how important this building remains to local religious life today.

The northern entrance provides access to the ablution area where visitors perform ritual washing before prayer. Plan visits around prayer times and dress appropriately out of respect for those who worship here.

The entrance door bears a poetic inscription carved by Malatya resident Aksoghanoglu Haci Ali Osman Efendi directly into the stone. This personal dedication carved into the stonework adds a meaningful layer to the building's entrance.
