Küçükçekmece, District in Istanbul Province, Turkey
Küçükçekmece is a district on the European shore of the Sea of Marmara that spreads around a natural lagoon with residential and industrial zones covering approximately 127 square kilometers. The area is divided into different zones that connect residential neighborhoods with economic activities.
The district was known as Rhégion during Byzantine times and contains archaeological sites such as Bathonea and the Yarımburgaz Caves with traces of ancient settlements. These locations point to a long history of occupation from ancient times to the present.
The district has several theaters, art centers, and museums, including the Mehmet Arsay Classic Automobile Museum with a collection of vintage vehicles near the lake. These venues shape local cultural life and reflect residents' interest in art and history.
The area is well connected through the Marmaray rail system, metrobus lines, and access to major highways E-5 and TEM-E80 that link Europe and Asia. Visitors can use these networks to travel around and explore different parts of the district.
The lake has research stations that monitor water quality and environmental conditions to support scientific studies about regional ecosystems. This work makes it an important location for environmental observation in the region.
