Bathonea

Bathonea is an archaeological site near Kucukcekmece Lake where researchers have uncovered ancient structures including port facilities, a lighthouse, and residential buildings from different periods. The excavations reveal layers of settlement that developed over many centuries.

The site shows settlement by various ancient peoples who established themselves here during different historical phases. Archaeological finds point to a harbor that played an important role in the region over a long period.

The site contains traces of Viking settlements, demonstrated by uncovered artifacts such as amber crosses and Ourobos necklaces from Norse inhabitants.

Access to the site is limited because excavations are ongoing and some areas may be closed for scientific work. Visitors should check ahead to learn which sections are open and wear appropriate footwear for uneven ground.
