Bathonea, Archaeological site in Avcilar, Turkey
The excavation site near Kucukcekmece Lake reveals ancient structures including harbors, a lighthouse, and architectural remains from different historical periods.
Researchers discovered evidence of Thracian and Phrygian tribes that migrated through the Bosporus to Anatolia approximately 3,000 years ago.
The site contains traces of Viking settlements, demonstrated by uncovered artifacts such as amber crosses and Ourobos necklaces from Norse inhabitants.
Mercedes-Benz Türk provides support for the ongoing excavations, which involve international teams of scientists working to uncover the site's ancient layers.
Excavations revealed Turkey's second ancient lighthouse after Patara, with underwater architectural remains preserved in the Kucukcekmece Lake basin.
