Küçükçekmece Bridge

Küçükçekmece Bridge is a stone structure that connects Lake Küçükçekmece to the Marmara Sea across a considerable span. It features thirteen arches arranged at regular intervals, forming a solid construction that carries traffic across the water.

The bridge was built in the middle of the 16th century by a renowned architect and replaced earlier structures that had existed at this location for centuries. The site held importance in ancient times and served as a key connection between regions.

The bridge shows how the Ottomans connected water and land using proven building methods. Visitors can see the carefully laid stones and the craftsmanship typical of that era.

The bridge is accessible from the southeastern side of the lake and allows direct crossing. When visiting, be aware that water levels fluctuate and conditions can appear different depending on the season.

During restoration work in the 2000s, an additional arch opening was discovered that had not been mentioned in earlier records. This finding changed our understanding of the original construction and reveals how carefully the engineers worked at that time.
