Yeşilköy Feneri

Yeşilköy Feneri is a lighthouse on the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara featuring a white cylindrical tower with two observation balconies. The installation uses an advanced optical lens system and powerful light source to guide vessels safely through shallow coastal waters.

The lighthouse was constructed during the Ottoman Empire's modernization period in the 1800s and initially guided ships using kerosene before transitioning to gas and then electricity. These technological changes reflected Turkey's gradual adoption of modern maritime equipment.

The lighthouse has shaped how locals experience this coastline for over a century, serving as a distinctive landmark that connects the community to maritime traditions. It represents a tangible link between Turkey's seafaring past and present-day life along the waterfront.

The lighthouse sits directly on the waterfront and can be approached from the land side with easy access to the surrounding area due to flat terrain. Dining facilities nearby make it convenient to spend time and take refreshments while enjoying views of the structure and coastline.

A former keeper's residence next to the lighthouse has been converted into a restaurant offering waterfront dining with views of the beacon and shoreline. This repurposed building allows visitors to experience both the maritime heritage and local hospitality in one location.
