Midyat

Midyat is an administrative district in Mardin Province in southeastern Turkey, characterized by limestone buildings and narrow streets in its older areas. The center serves as a commercial hub with markets selling regional goods, traditional silver crafts, and textiles from local artisans and farmers.

Ancient sources mention the place in the 9th century BCE as Matiate, a location significant during campaigns of Assyrian rulers. This early strategic importance shaped the settlement's long history.
