İztuzu Beach, Mediterranean beach in Dalyan, Turkey
İztuzu Beach is a sandy shore in Dalyan extending approximately 4.5 kilometers and separating the Dalyan River delta from the Mediterranean coast. The gently sloping water and wide sand expanse define its calm appearance.
The Kaunos Hotel was planned near the shore in 1987, but the Turkish government halted the project in 1988 through a protection order. This action ensured the beach's integrity for future generations.
The beach represents a focal point for sea turtle protection efforts and has become a symbol of conservation in the region. Visitors directly encounter the importance of this work through information displays and conversations with local guides.
Access is limited between 8 AM and 8 PM from May through September during the nesting season. Visitors must stay outside marked nest areas to avoid disturbing the breeding turtles.
More than 300 nests of loggerhead turtles form here annually and are marked with wooden stakes. This density of nesting sites makes the shore one of the most significant breeding grounds for this species in the eastern Mediterranean.
