Viranşehir

Viranşehir extends across 2,297 square kilometers of land in southeastern Turkey, functioning as a municipal center with a population of 207,315 residents.

The settlement, known as Constantina during Roman times, gained prominence as a strategic location and served as the seat of dux Mesopotamiae from 363 to 540.

The district contains 148 neighborhoods where Kurdish and Arab communities maintain their languages, customs, and traditional practices within the local social structure.

Located 93 kilometers east of Şanlıurfa, the district serves as a market center for the surrounding cotton-growing agricultural region near the Syrian border.

Ibrahim Pasha, an Ottoman Kurdish statesman, established his base in Viranşehir and formed the Hamidiye Brigades, creating a sanctuary for 600 Christian families.
