Dolmabahçe Mosque, Baroque mosque in Beyoğlu, Turkey
The Dolmabahçe Mosque features twin stone minarets, a large central dome, and circular glass windows overlooking the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul.
The mosque, completed in 1855, was commissioned by Queen Mother Bezmialem Valide Sultan and constructed by architect Garabet Balyan near Dolmabahçe Palace.
The interior walls display golden Arabic calligraphy against green backgrounds, with recurring themes of Mohammad and Allah throughout the decorative elements.
The mosque welcomes visitors daily from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with adjusted schedules during religious holidays and regular prayer times.
Between 1956 and 1960, the building temporarily housed the Naval Museum before returning to its original function as a place of worship.
