Molla Çelebi Mosque

Molla Çelebi Mosque is a prayer building with Ottoman design in Beyoğlu, featuring a hexagonal central hall covered by a large dome. Four smaller semi-domes help divide the interior space and support the overall structure.

The building was constructed in 1584 under the direction of Mimar Sinan, a prominent architect of that period. A high-ranking official named Kazasker Mehmet Vusuli Efendi commissioned its construction as a place of worship.

The interior displays painted walls and detailed decorative patterns typical of Ottoman prayer spaces from this era. These handcrafted elements show the artistic care that went into such buildings.

The mosque sits near the Kabatas ferry port on the waterfront and is easy to reach. Visitors should note that access during prayer times may be limited, and respectful clothing is expected.

The pillars of the building are embedded into the walls rather than standing freely in the space, representing an unusual building approach. This solution creates a more open and flowing interior layout.
