Hagia Triada Greek Orthodox Church
Hagia Triada Greek Orthodox Church, Greek Orthodox church in Beyoğlu, Turkey.
Hagia Triada is a Greek Orthodox church in Beyoğlu featuring a central dome and two spires, blending Byzantine Revival and neo-baroque architectural elements. The building's structure combines these styles into a coherent design that stands out within the surrounding urban landscape.
The church was completed in 1880 as the first domed Christian structure allowed to be built in Istanbul after the 1453 Fall of Constantinople. This marked a turning point in religious freedom for Christians in the city following centuries of restrictions.
The interior displays religious artworks by painter Sakellarios Megaklis and marble designs by sculptor Alexandros Krikelis, reflecting Orthodox Christian traditions. These handcrafted details show how the faith and artistic heritage shape the everyday life of worshippers who come here.
The church is located near Taksim Square on Meşelik Street and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should expect narrow urban streets and wear modest clothing if entering during services.
After the events of 1955, the church underwent major reconstruction funded by businessman Panagiotis Angelopoulos. These extensive repairs saved the building from decline and allowed the historic structure to continue serving the community.
