Doğançay Museum, Modern art museum in Beyoğlu, Turkey
The Doğançay Museum is an art museum housed in a restored building with five floors that displays contemporary Turkish artwork. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, and photographic installations from various artists.
The building dates back to the 19th century and once belonged to a Greek family in Istanbul before opening as a museum in 2004. The restoration took four years to prepare the historic structure for its new purpose.
The museum displays works by Burhan Doğançay and his father Adil Doğançay, reflecting different periods in Turkish art history. These pieces allow visitors to follow the artistic evolution of a family across multiple generations.
The museum is located near Tünel Station and easily accessible, with exhibition spaces spread across multiple levels for exploring. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as climbing stairs between floors is necessary.
The museum's elevator functions as an additional exhibition space, displaying photographs from The Ironworkers Project. This unusual use of the elevator creates a surprisingly intimate art experience for visitors during their journey between floors.
