Church of St. Mary Draperis, Catholic church in Beyoğlu, Turkey
The Church of St. Mary Draperis presents a single-nave basilical structure with two floors, smooth cut stone walls, and a neoclassical facade.
Clara Maria Draperis, a Levantine woman, funded the church's construction in 1769 after previous versions were destroyed by fires in 1660, 1697, and 1767.
The church maintains strong connections to the Italian community, offering daily masses in Italian while also providing services in Spanish and Korean on Sundays.
Located at 215 Istiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu, the church stands at the bottom of a steep staircase protected by decorative fencing.
A wooden icon of the Virgin Mary, rescued from multiple fires throughout the church's history, continues to adorn the main altar made of pink Carrara marble.
