The Museum of Innocence, Literary museum in Çukurcuma, Turkey
The Museum of Innocence is a literary museum in Çukurcuma that displays thousands of items collected by writer Orhan Pamuk. The objects are arranged chronologically and correspond to the chapters of his novel of the same name.
The museum opened in 2012, eight years after the publication of Pamuk's novel of the same name in 2008. It occupies a wooden house from the 19th century that originally served as a private residence.
The exhibits show how people in Istanbul during the 1970s lived through everyday objects and personal memories. You see how relationships and daily habits took shape in that time and what roles family and society played.
The museum is located near Taksim Square and opens Tuesday through Sunday, with extended hours on Thursdays. English audio guides are available on-site to help navigate the exhibits.
A striking collection displays over 4,000 cigarette stubs in glass cases, all supposedly smoked by the novel's character Füsun. This unusual installation subtly conveys a character's obsession and makes the novel's concept tangible to visitors.
