Atlas Cinema, Cinema theater in Beyoğlu, Turkey.
Atlas Cinema is a movie theater at 133 Istiklal Avenue in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, housed inside a Renaissance Revival building. The screening hall combines the original decorative interior with modern projection equipment.
The building was constructed in 1877 by an Armenian banker named Agop Koceyan as a private residence. It served as a music hall for several decades before being converted into a cinema in 1948.
Atlas Cinema is one of the venues for the International Istanbul Film Festival, drawing audiences who come for both Turkish and international films. Sitting on Istiklal Avenue, it pulls in a mix of locals and visitors who make a stop here part of their evening on the street.
The cinema sits on Istiklal Avenue and is easy to reach on foot from the nearest metro stop. It is a good idea to check seating options and accessibility in advance before your visit.
During a restoration that ran from 2019 to 2021, workers carefully recovered the original ceiling paintings inside the hall, which had been done by hand by a French artist. These painted decorations are still visible today and draw as much attention as the films being shown.
