Surp Yerrortutyun Armenian Church

Surp Yerrortutyun is an Armenian Catholic church in Beyoğlu with rose-colored exterior walls set behind protective high barriers near Taksim Square. The building occupies a sheltered position within these enclosing walls, creating a secluded courtyard space separate from the surrounding urban area.

The church was founded in the early 1700s and underwent major reconstruction following fires that occurred in 1762 and 1831. Armenian Catholics took ownership in 1857 and have maintained it since.

The interior features classical architectural details such as Corinthian columns and ceiling paintings depicting apostles, all designed by the renowned Balyan family. These designs exemplify the refined craftsmanship that characterized 19th-century Istanbul architecture.
