Sinan Pasha Mosque

Sinan Pasha Mosque is a house of prayer in Beşiktaş that reflects Ottoman architectural traditions with a spacious interior. The main prayer hall features a large dome supported by a system of arches and sturdy columns.

A high-ranking naval commander commissioned the building in 1554, and it was completed in the mid-1550s. An inscription inside marks this founding period and the patron's importance to the city.

The mosque served the neighborhood as both a place of worship and a school, with classrooms integrated into the courtyard spaces for community learning.

When visiting, remember that access during prayer times requires respectful behavior and visitors may need to remove their shoes. A water fountain in the courtyard is available for ritual washing and drinking.

The walls display a striking pattern of alternating light and dark stone layers that is typical of buildings from this era. A later renovation in the 1700s creatively integrated original architectural elements into the interior in a new way.
