Istanbul Airport, Airport terminal in İmrahor Mahallesi, Turkey
Istanbul Airport is a terminal with large glass facades, high vaulted ceilings, and multiple boarding gates serving both domestic and international connections. The hall stretches across several levels with waiting areas, shops, and restaurants arranged around a central zone.
Operations began on October 29, 2018, after the old Atatürk Airport reached its capacity limits. The opening marked a fresh start for Turkish aviation and Istanbul's connection to the world.
The terminal offers a wide selection of Turkish food outlets, cafés, and shops where travelers find local products like tea, spices, and handcrafted items. Many passengers use the prayer rooms and ablution facilities designed to meet the needs of Muslim visitors.
Travelers should allow extra time to pass through security checks and reach the correct gate, as distances can be considerable. Signs in multiple languages and digital displays help with orientation inside the building.
A tulip-shaped control tower standing 90 meters tall (295 feet) defines the skyline and is visible from many points on the tarmac. The architecture uses curved arches and geometric patterns that recall Ottoman construction techniques.
