Adamkayalar

Adamkayalar are seventeen stone reliefs carved into the steep cliffs of a gorge near the Mediterranean coast. The figures show warriors, families, and ordinary people from the second century AD, all carefully carved into the rock.

These reliefs were created in the second century AD and show the importance of the city of Olba at that time. They were made to honor deceased people and were meant to preserve their memory for future generations.

The site lies in a deep gorge, and the path there leads steeply downhill over rough trails. Strong footwear and good physical condition are needed to reach it and to climb back out.

Roman eagles are carved above some of the reliefs, showing the power of the empire. These symbols emphasized that the city of Olba was under Roman control.
