Silifke

Silifke is a coastal town in Mersin Province situated at the mouth of the Göksu River, nestled between the Taurus Mountains and productive farmland. The landscape is shaped by the river and framed by surrounding peaks and agricultural plains.

The town began as Seleucia ad Calycadnum in the 3rd century BC and grew into a major Mediterranean port. It later received a significant Roman structure that marked its enduring importance to the region.

The town hosts a yoghurt festival each May that brings together local dairy producers, musicians, and artisans to celebrate regional food traditions. This event shapes how residents connect with their agricultural heritage.

The town sits roughly 80 kilometers from Mersin and connects easily via regular bus services to larger centers. Many lodging and dining options are spread throughout the area to serve different preferences.

An ancient stone bridge crosses the river and dates from Roman times, yet still functions after nearly two thousand years. This structure showcases the remarkable durability of ancient engineering.
