The Frederick Barbarossa Memorial is located west of Silifke and features a stone base with inscriptions in German and Turkish. The site overlooks the Göksu River and includes informational panels that explain the historical events associated with the location.
In 1190, Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I drowned in the Göksu River while traveling through Anatolia. This event occurred during the Third Crusade and altered the course of that military campaign.
The memorial reflects the meeting of European and Turkish worlds during medieval times. This site marks a significant moment in relations between the Holy Roman Empire and the Sultanate of Rum.

The original statue of the memorial vanished shortly after being installed in 2012, leaving only the stone base. The inscriptions on the base, however, date from 1971 and have been preserved.
