Emirzeli is an ancient settlement near Karahmetli with stone ruins scattered across the Mediterranean terrain, including a fortress built with precisely fitted polygonal blocks. The site contains the remains of several structures from different periods of occupation.
The settlement rose to importance in ancient times and witnessed multiple periods of occupation and building activity. Religious structures and defensive works reflect the site's strategic value across different eras.
The site contains remains of three basilica churches from the 5th or 6th century Byzantine period, with one structure partially standing.
The site can be reached from highway D.400 via a connecting road leading inland from the Mediterranean coast. Bring water and sun protection, as the ruins are exposed with little shade available.
One of the standing tower walls displays a carved phallus symbol from ancient times. This unusual carving is particularly noteworthy because it was placed on a prominent part of the fortification.
