USS Eversole

USS Eversole is a Gearing-class destroyer now preserved as a museum ship in Kocaeli Province. The vessel spans multiple decks with naval systems, weaponry, crew spaces, and control centers that visitors can explore throughout the interior.

The destroyer entered service as USS Eversole in 1946 and served the United States Navy for about 27 years. In 1973 the vessel was transferred to Turkey, where it became known as TCG Gayret.

The ship reveals how sailors lived and worked in their daily routines aboard a warship. Visitors can see the spaces where the crew spent their time, giving a real sense of maritime life during the Cold War era.

The ship requires climbing stairs to access its multiple decks and narrow interior spaces. Wear sturdy shoes and allow plenty of time to move through the vessel carefully and safely.

The vessel was built specifically to hunt and destroy enemy warships, equipped with advanced weapons and radar systems still visible on board. This technical setup reveals the naval technology that dominated during the Cold War period.
