Sığacık Castle, Ottoman fortress in Seferihisar, Turkey.
Sığacık Castle is a stone fortress at the northeastern edge of Sığacık Harbor, with defensive walls, two towers, and multiple entrance gates. A traditional bathhouse and several buildings for daily activities occupy the interior space.
Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent ordered construction in 1521 and builders used stone from the ancient city of Teos for the walls. It was built as a control point for the southern Aegean coast and important trade routes in the region.
The Süleyman Han Mosque sits within the walls and shows how religious spaces were built into the fortress layout. The prayer room was central to daily life for those stationed here.
The fortress can be visited throughout the year, with pathways connecting different areas. It helps to wear comfortable shoes because the ground is uneven and you will climb several levels.
Today families actually live within the walls, combining their modern homes with the historical surroundings. This blend of old architecture and contemporary life makes the place unusually alive.
