İzmir Toy Museum, Toy museum in Konak district, İzmir, Turkey.
The İzmir Toy Museum is a museum in the Konak area that occupies two floors with different collections on each level. The ground floor displays donations from Ümran Baradan, while the first floor presents contributions from Sunay Akın.
The museum was founded in 2010 by ceramic artist Ümran Baradan, who donated a two-story building and an initial collection of toys from various countries. This founding established an institution dedicated to documenting toy history on an international scale.
The museum displays Turkish toys such as Karagöz and Hacivat puppets alongside international pieces including German teddy bears and Italian dancing dolls. This collection shows how toys served similar purposes in childhood across different parts of the world.
The museum is located on Halil Rifat Paşa street in central İzmir and is managed by Konak municipality. The building is easily accessible on foot and staff members are available to help guide visitors through the space.
The collection includes rare items such as an 1860 baby carriage from the United States and an 1880 cardboard town from the United Kingdom. These two pieces show different ways children played and explored their world in earlier times.
