Izmir Ethnography Museum, Ethnography museum in Konak district, Izmir, Turkey.

The Izmir Ethnography Museum occupies a four-story stone building with Byzantine-style ornaments, marble columns, and large arched windows that brighten the exhibition halls. The structure sits in Bahribaba Park alongside the Archaeology Museum and houses a broad collection of regional objects.

The building was constructed in 1917 as a maternity ward on a former Jewish cemetery site. It later functioned as a health authority facility before opening as a museum in 1984.

The halls showcase traditional Turkish crafts like pottery and carpet weaving through detailed displays that reveal how artisans once worked. These exhibitions help visitors understand the daily practices and skills that shaped local identity.

The museum offers free admission and informative panels throughout the space to help visitors navigate the displays. Plan to spend time moving through each floor and examining the detailed presentations.

The museum preserves the original interior of Izmir's first Turkish pharmacy, with its fixtures and layout intact. A remarkable display is the complete 19th-century bridal chamber, furnished with period pieces that show how families celebrated important transitions.
