The museum occupies a four-story stone building with Byzantine-style ornaments, marble columns, and large arched windows that illuminate the exhibition halls.
The structure, built in 1917 as a maternity ward on a former Jewish cemetery, later served as a health directorate before becoming a museum in 1984.
The exhibition halls present collections of traditional Turkish crafts including pottery, felt-making, carpet weaving, and tin-making through detailed dioramas and artifacts.
Located in Bahribaba Park next to the Archaeology Museum, this institution offers free admission and displays informative panels about regional customs.
The museum contains the preserved interior of the first Turkish pharmacy in Izmir and a complete 19th-century bridal room with original furnishings.
