Signora Giveret Synagogue

The stone-built synagogue features high walls surrounding a large courtyard, with a wooden hip roof and numerous arched windows providing natural illumination.

Portuguese merchant Donna Gracia Mendes established the synagogue in the 16th century, and after a fire in 1841, the Yeruşalmi family restored it.

The interior contains seats arranged in linear patterns with engraved names, reflecting the traditional Jewish practice of assigned family seating arrangements.

The synagogue maintains regular religious services and connects to a terrace through a five-step stairway in the central Kemeraltı district.

The building incorporates a portable spruce wall that integrates with the Torah ark, creating a flexible space for different religious functions.
