Kardiçalı Han

Kardiçalı Han is a three-story building with varying window designs across its floors and an internal courtyard surrounded by commercial spaces. The structure uses modern reinforced concrete frame construction, making it an early example of this building technique in Turkey.

The building was constructed in 1928 by tobacco merchant Kardiçalı Ibrahim as an early example of modern reinforced concrete construction in Turkey. It represented one of the first structures using this advanced technique in the country during that era.

The building displays a blend of neoclassical design and decorative elements inspired by Ottoman architecture. This style reflected a Turkish movement that combined modern construction methods with traditional design ideas.

The building sits at the intersection of Cumhuriyet Boulevard and Mimar Kemalettin Street, making it easy to locate. Be aware that the structure sustained damage from a 2020 earthquake and may have limited or restricted access for visitors.

The building was among the first structures in Turkey built with modern reinforced concrete frame construction, following only a foundational building in Istanbul. This early adoption of advanced construction technology made it a milestone in Turkish architectural development.
