The Kemeraltı bazaar extends through a network of narrow streets containing thousands of shops selling textiles, spices, handicrafts, and local produce.
Dating from the 17th century, the bazaar developed around the Hisar Mosque built in 1592, gradually expanding as sections of the inner bay were filled.
The marketplace features 34 synagogues, multiple Ottoman mosques, and traditional Turkish baths that represent the multicultural heritage of the region.
The bazaar opens daily from morning until evening, with easy access through public transportation and numerous entrances from different parts of the city.
Local artisans at Kemeraltı produce and sell traditional Turkish soaps, including the sought-after Aleppo soap known for its natural skin benefits.
