Haghia Triada monastery, Halki

Haghia Triada monastery is a Byzantine monastic building on Heybeliada island near Istanbul. The structure features domes and houses walls and ceilings decorated with religious paintings of biblical stories.

The monastery was founded in the 9th century and later developed into a major theological school. It operated until 1971 when it finally closed.

The name refers to the Holy Trinity, reflecting the deep theological meaning of this place. Visitors and pilgrims come here to experience the spiritual atmosphere shaped by generations of monks.

The monastery is best reached by taking a ferry from Istanbul to Heybeliada island, and then walking or using local transport to reach it. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the paths to the monastery can be steep.
