Museum Gazhane, Cultural center in Hasanpaşa, Istanbul, Turkey
Museum Gazhane is a cultural center in Hasanpaşa on the Asian side of Istanbul, consisting of several restored brick buildings. The site includes exhibition spaces, theaters, libraries, and work areas distributed across the grounds.
The site began operating as a gasworks in the late nineteenth century and supplied energy to the Anatolian side of Istanbul until 1993. After closure, the old industrial structures were gradually converted into a public cultural center.
The Climate Museum on site was the country's first public institution of its kind, showing exhibitions about environmental changes and energy use. Visitors today can walk through the rooms and engage with current questions about climate change.
The grounds stay open around the clock and offer parking as well as dining options for visitors. The facility is fully accessible and all areas can be reached by wheelchair.
The Science Center within the complex holds 24 exhibition units dedicated to different aspects of energy and offers interactive experiments for children. Most installations allow young visitors to learn through direct touch and trial.
