Kaptan Hasan Paşa Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Hasanpaşa neighborhood, Kadıköy, Turkey.
The Kaptan Hasan Paşa Mosque in Hasanpaşa is a square-plan building topped with a central dome and decorated with exterior tiles and marble columns. The interior is arranged around a mihrab in traditional Ottoman style, with a basement level added in 1993 to provide additional prayer space.
The mosque was constructed in 1899 as a replacement for a destroyed earlier structure. It was commissioned by Hasan Hüsnü Paşa, who served as Minister of Navy under Sultan Abdülhamid II.
Inside, you will see intricate calligraphy and ornamental details that reflect late Ottoman artistic traditions. These decorative elements create an impression of refinement that remains visible throughout the space today.
The mosque is easily accessible from outside with a forecourt entrance area. Visitors can enter the main prayer hall, and there is a separate entrance in the forecourt that leads to the basement prayer space added in 1993.
The complex preserves an original school building and a courtyard fountain from the initial construction period. These two features offer a window into the daily life that once centered around the mosque.
