Point Fortin

Point Fortin is an administrative borough on the southwestern coast of Trinidad, located about 32 kilometers southwest of San Fernando. As the smallest borough on the island, it stretches across coastal land and houses modern government facilities alongside major industrial operations.

The discovery of oil in 1906 transformed the area from agricultural land into an energy production center. This growth eventually led to its recognition as an independent borough in 1980.

The area plays a central role in the daily lives of residents who work across energy, agriculture, and trade sectors. This economic focus shapes how people move through the town and what matters most in local conversations.

Visitors will find modern government buildings with parking and food services available since 2024. The flat coastal setting makes the area easy to navigate, especially by car.

The area developed from three separate cocoa and coconut estates into an energy hub with a major liquefied natural gas facility. This shift shows how dramatically the local economy and landscape have been transformed.
