Jinshan District, Coastal administrative district in northern New Taipei, Taiwan.
Jinshan District is a coastal area in northern New Taipei covering approximately 49 square kilometers of land and water. Three main waterways—Sulphur Creek, Xishi Creek, and Qingshui Creek—shape the landscape and create important wetland areas.
The area began as a Ketagalan settlement called Ki-ppare, named after the indigenous people who inhabited the region. The name changed to Kimpauli after gold was discovered in the local sulfur streams.
The Dharma Drum Buddhist College shapes the spiritual character of the district through Zen Buddhist teachings and practice. You can sense this influence in how the college integrates into the local community and landscape.
The district is well connected by public transportation with regular services to central Taipei throughout the year. Getting around is straightforward whether you arrive as a visitor or live in the area.
The coastal wetlands serve as a final resting point for migratory birds traveling through Taiwan, including rare Siberian Cranes. During migration seasons, you can watch these birds pause to gather energy for their long journeys.
